Excessive perspiration control

Hyperhidrosis means excessive sweating and is a common disorder affecting many people. Sweating is one of the most important ways in which the body loses heat, however people with hyperhidrosis produce sweat in amounts far greater than needed to control their temperature. Underarm sweating is the most common form of hyperhidrosis.

Hyperhidrosis is a medical condition with severe negative psychological and emotional consequences. Excessive sweating is often an uncontrollable, embarrassing problem especially on social occasions.

It is thought that hyperhidrosis is a result of over activity of the sympathetic nervous system. It is usually an inherited problem, affecting all walks of life, and a condition that people tend to suffer with throughout their lives.

It can be very effectively treated by injecting tiny amounts of Botulinum toxin (Botox®/Xeomin®) into the skin superficially with a tiny needle .This blocks the nerve impulse to the sweat glands thus reducing perspiration. In a clinical trial, the average reduction in sweat was 87% and sweating was reduced by at least half in 95% of patients.

The treatment takes about 45 minutes and it is a relatively painless procedure but local anaesthetic gels can be applied to the skin before the procedure if needed.

After treatment you should notice a reduction in perspiration within a week, though it may take longer . The effects of this treatment usually lasts between 6-8 months, so you can enjoy life without having to worry about perspiration. Repeat treatments are needed to maintain the effect.
